Modal verbs are a specific type of auxiliary verbs that express the attitude or possibility of an action or state in a sentence. They modify the main verb and help convey ideas such as ability, permission, obligation, necessity, and probability. Some common modal verbs include "can," "could," "may," "might," "should," "must," "shall," "will," and "would."
